Some of these architectural wonders were built during the British Colonial era in India. Forest research institute of Dehradun Uttarakhand (FRI DEHRADUN) is one of the examples of this architecture.
The Forest Research Institute (FRI) is an institute of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. It is an educational cum tourist spot amid by green lesser Shivalik range.

LOCATION:

FRI Dehradun is located at Dehradun in Uttarakhand, and it is one of the oldest institutions of its kind. It is a census town, between Kaulagarh in the north and the Indian Military Academy to the south. And with the Western Boundary of Tons river.

HISTORY:

It was founded by Dietrich Brandis in  1878 as the British Imperial Forest School. Later it was reestablished as the Imperial Forest Research Institute in 1906, under the British Imperial Forestry Service. Now it is a heritage site of the Indian government.  For the largest purely brick structure in the world, the FRI building was listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

ACADEMIC CAMPS:

FRI  is the forest college of Dehradun and it hosts Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), which is a separate organization of the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF). It also hosts the Central Academy for State Forest Services (CASFOS). The primary authorization of the Academy is to impart knowledge and skills to the professional foresters and help them to develop or expand competence for managing the country forest and wildlife resources on a sustainable basis. In the Fri institute, training is provided at different levels of seniority in the Indian Forest Service besides training the new entrants to the service.

Forest Research Institute Dehradun Courses

*FRI Institute offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. courses in different specializations
*The university of FRI runs four MSc courses viz. Cellulose & Paper Technology, Environment Management, Forestry Management, Wood Science Technology and two P.G.Diploma courses in Natural Resource Management and Aroma Technology.
*It conducts its own Entrance Test to offer admission in M.Sc course. Final admission is granted on the basis of institute-based counseling.
* PhD admission is based on candidates’ performance in Written Test conducted by FRI attended by an Interview round.
*The goal of the University is to promote forestry and environment education across different disciplines.

TOURIST SPOT AND POPULAR CULTURE

The green nature and peaceful environment attack a large number of tourists in Fri Dehradun.FRI building is also a famous site in the film industry. Many popular movies like  Dulhan Ek Raat Ki, Krishna Cottage, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, 404, Paan Singh Tomar, Nanban, Student of the Year, Student of the Year 2, Dilli Khabar, Yaara Genius, Dear Daddy and Maharshi were majorly shot in this campus.
The campus also believes in protecting the forest and spreading the importance of forest that's why there is a museum of forest heritage. The museum is open from 9:30am to 5:00pm daily. There is an entry fee of ₹40 per person and a nominal entry fee for vehicles. There are six interesting sections in the museum:

Non-Wood Forest Products Museum

Social Forestry Museum

*Photography is strictly prohibited on the institute premises that are in the museum. So, keep your shutters restricted.
*Don’t miss out on any museum while you concentrate on another museum. Visit all of them because all of them have different characteristics.
*For the help of people guided tours are organized by the institute. These tours operate daily in 2 slots – morning from 9:30am – 1 pm and afternoon slot from 2:30-5:30pm.
*The guided tours come at a price of Rs 50 per person.
*It is a good place to visit in every season, hence, the hill station has pleasant weather all throughout the year.
